Please reply as a 'Yes' and write "Volunteer" if you're interested in volunteering on the race course.
This Deadline to register for this is the end of February. I would love to organize a team to participate in this event. Since this requires a synchronized group of 12 (+ 2 volunteers) and it requires all 12 to pay in advance, we will need 12 (or close to 12) people to sign up. Once we get 12, I will contact everyone and try to collect the money before the deadline, and then register online. First to add as a 'Yes' gets first preference if we have more than 12.
I don't know how this will go, but I hope we get 14 (12 runners + 2 volunteers) to sign up and pay the registration/donation ($130) by the end of February so that we can participate in this fun/unique event!!!

START – SATURDAY, 7 AM-5 PM DURING THE CALISTOGA HEALTH EXPO
featuring exhibitors, food, music and view of the mountains. Captains must check in one hour prior to the assigned start time.

COURSE
Boasts the largest number of tourist destinations of any run with 36 legs (three legs per runner, 3–8.9 miles each) through 36 cities and across the Golden Gate Bridge at midnight.
CAUTION
Run on the Right (with traffic) except part of Leg 1 and Leg 18. Obey the California Vehicle Code including stopping at red lights and crossing roads in crosswalks or at intersections. There are no road closures, traffic control or aid stations. Exercise caution always.
FINISH – SUNDAY, 10 AM-8 PM DURING THE DAVENPORT VICTORY PARTY
with Awards Ceremony, beer garden, exhibitors, food, music, Pacific Ocean and wine tasting. Runners should join their final team member and finish as a team.

They just posted start time for this team (Dane's) is 1:00 P.M. on Sat - 1 more month to go...hope you all have a good training.
Dane,
Am I one of the runners now? I was an alternate before. Should I go to the meeting tomorrow morning?
Rebecca
Hey guys, regretfully I'm taking myself off the team. A couple of friends talked me into joining their team... the peer pressure...
This is going to be such a fun run! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you after work tomorrow!
Dane, the team only needs two volunteers and it appears you already have both, so I guess that gets me off the hook. I'll train and get ready in case I need to step in for someone, otherwise I'll try to join another team down the line.
I'm really excited for this!! Helen I think you should try it! You don't need to be a super runner just do the best you can, it's more about the fun of running with everyone and running in places you wouldn't run. I think you'd be surprised by how quickly you can pick up your mileage in the next 2 months. :)
Alternates are 1) Jose, 2) Helen. I will let alternates know by Saturday if we have spots to fill. Volunteers are 1) Judy, 2) Val, 3) Jose's friend(s)? Thank you so much to the volunteers!!! Here are the shifts remaining: http://www.therelay.com/Application/ShiftsRemaining.php3
.
Okay Relayers, we're down to crunch time! Any luck with HR for charitable matching? Here is who I am under the impression are solid 'Yes' people: 1) Angela, 2) Christine Cruz, 3) Debbie, 4) Jose M., 5) Steve, 6) Virginia, 7) Robyn Copabianco (not shown here), 8) Alicia, 9) Rebecca, 10) Marina, 11) Heidi, 12) Christine Stanley, 13) Dane. 12 of those 13 need to either meet up with me at tonight's run, tomorrow 6pm, or Sat. 10am, all at Aqui in Campbell. Needs are an $80 check and a 10K pace!
Re: Helen, don't give up so soon...
Speaking from my own experience, sure you can do it...
Last Feb, my pace was 10:45 min/mile for 5 miles - then I got into injury (Shin splint) in Mar and April. I signed up as alternative, did not get train till April, got 4 wks notice before the Relay, trained about twice/wk - Then I ended up with 9:15 min/mile at the Relay - It was very fun and remarkable exp. I've seen you can do 4 mls in the treadmill while I can't even 2 mls. Easier to run with others
Dane, I will have to back off on this year's relay. I did another 4 miles this morning 90% by walk...very disappointed not confident at all to commit before the deadline. Thanks and I still hope to train with the team.
Dane, I'm going to give up my spot and Heidi can take my place. I've had a setback in my training and considering the team signup deadline rapidly approaching, I'd rather not be a question mark for the team. I'll be an alternate runner in case you guys need to fill a spot later on.
Helen, You're welcome to be on the team, but I'll leave it to your best judgement, since you're the only one who knows how you feel :)
Dane, today 4 miles on treadmill for 50 minutes and almost killed me...So out of shape not sure if I can pick it up within 2 months...I will have to try run tomorrow then decide to register or not (hopefully not too late), if my back hurts less tomorrow morning. Sorry for being wimpy here and thank you for your patience.
Dane, thank you for your reply, this is great news for me that I am part of the team now! Very good motivation for me to start running!
Rebecca, I've learned that EVERY year there are always runners who drop out at the last minute, so we'd love to have you on the team as an "alternate", but based on others' past experience, you'll likely be a runner!
